Nuts in Texas Holdem

Getting the nuts in texas holdem puts you in a great starting position, but how do you play the hand? These tips will help you.

The nuts are the best possible starting hand in texas hold’em, but they aren’t a starting hand that you can play on autopilot. If you want to get the most out of the nuts, then read on for some poker tips.

If you start with the Ace of Hearts and the Ace of Diamonds, then the flop presents you with the Ace of Spades and the Ace of Clubs, along with, say, the three of Clubs, then you can be confident that you have the best hand, and you can bet however you think will give you the most returns – stringing people along or betting aggressively as the tone of the table requires.
Imagine if the flop is not so kind to you, though, and it presents a five of Diamonds, Nine of diamond, and ten of Clubs. Now there are lots of possible card combinations that could lead to a better hand than the one you are holding.

When you have a vulnerable nut hand, you need to tread carefully. If you’re going to bet with a vulnerable nut hand, then the best poker tip you could possibly follow is to not let your opponents chase you cheaply. Make them pay to get one of the better hands. Most people decide that a drawing hand needs 4 to 1 or better odds in order to make it worth seeing another card. If you make a bet close to the size of the pot, you’ll probably deter your opponent from calling. Sometimes your opponent will move all-in on a bluff, giving them the chance to see the turn and the river. If this happens, and your stack is strong enough, call with your nut hand.

When your nut hand isn’t vulnerable, you can slow play Texas Holdem poker tournaments in order to try to coax more action out of the hand, but it’s often obvious that you are holding the nuts. Sometimes you just have to resign yourself to the fact that you won’t strike it big, but anything you can do to maximise the size of the pot will help.
